The Sour Diesel Cocktail

 In Uncategorized

Last night I learned how to make a new drink at the restaurant below my apartment! It’s called The Sour Diesel and was created by Eric Downs (one of my favorite bartenders) at Pisticci (one of my favorite restaurants). Somehow they let me behind the bar to attempt making it for myself. You’d be surprised how seriously people take you when you say you’re researching for your blog.

Here I am shaking my Sour Diesel

The Sour Diesel:

-2 1/2 oz. Bourbon or Rye (we used Maker’s)

-1 oz. fresh lemon juice

-Ginger syrup

-3 dashes Angostura bitters

Pour ingredients over ice and shake into a cocktail shaker. Strain into a martini glass and garnish with some crystalized ginger if you want to be fancy. It can also be served on the rocks.

I'm no mixologist, but this is one tasty drink!

For Ginger Syrup:

-Peel one large ginger root and chop into 1/2 inch cubes.

-In medium sauce pan bring 4 cups of water into a low boil.

-Add ginger and 4 cups sugar.

-Let simmer for 30 minutes.

-Strain and let cool. Store in the fridge.

I have not had this much fun yet in my research! This drink sounds yummy–it is like a traditional whiskey sour but with the addition of ginger syrup? We should be sure to have these at our launch party……….
