Dd Reader Represents at Sidra Bell Dance Company's ReVUE
Lately, we’ve been offering up some exciting ticket giveaways and I wanted to take the time to share one Dd reader’s thoughts on Sidra Bell Dance Company’s ReVue. The lucky lady to attend Sunday night’s performance was NYC freelance dancer (and a colleague of mine at Ballets with a Twist) Jessica Black. Jessica was deeply moved by Sidra’s choreography and dancers.

On Sunday April 1st, I had the pleasure of seeing the Sidra Bell Dance New York perform at the Baruch Performing Arts Center. The company performed program B called ReVUE, the second work based off the show Duel.
As a dancer myself, I was really blown away by all the creativity in the choreography, the costumes, the dancers, and the music. The movement was sensual and involved hundreds of body isolations; all the dancers seemed to be provoked by something coming from their insides.
One male dancer in specific, deemed by Sidra as “my clown,” was dressed as a clown and mimicked typical clown movements. Sidra called him. He really captured the audience’s attention by his extremely expressive movements with his face and his body. I certainly felt his journey, which involved every human feeling with being happy, sad, angry, etc.
Sidra incorporated a lot of group sections, solos, duets with two females, and duets with two males. For me, it was very interesting to see the different qualities in each duet.
Besides the show, I really enjoyed the performing space at Baruch. It carried a wonderful and creative energy.
Leaving the show, I felt as what Sidra was describing when she moves and choreographs, “her insides turn upside down and her brain shifts.”
I was really moved by this show and all of the details presented.I look forward to seeing more of Sidra Bell’s work very soon!
I’m so grateful that Jessica gave us a few more moments of her time to share with the rest of you her experience with SBDC. Stay tuned for more exciting dance and NYC events giveaways in the future!
