Meet Dd Contributor Rebecca Hadley

 In Archives, Uncategorized

The name Rebecca Hadley may ring a bell. The Barnard dance major wrote a guest blog for DIYdancer back in February on her senior thesis, Content, Concepts, and Conveyance; in which she uses William Forsythe’s work to examine “successful translations from the collaborative process to performances on the proscenium stage.” We’re thrilled to remove the guest from guest contributor and welcome Rebecca to the Dd circle of forward thinking dancers and writers. She’ll be sharing her thoughts and insight on the New York dance and arts scene. Read below to find out more about mover and shaker Rebecca.

ART: Performance or visual? What place does art have in your life?

Performance, because it is aural and visual. It’s a challenge to perception and a wonderful way to be engaged in the present. I like art because it’s a means to see what people are concerned with, and how they express that creatively. I like to know what people think about, as well as what they do with their time.

CRAFT: Knit or crochet or other? What is your craftiest project to date?

I hope to learn to knit or crochet one day, but writing is the closest I’ve come to a craft project lately.

DESIGN: Classical or modern? What designer or architect inspires you the most?

Modern! I don’t know much about architecture, but Frank Gehry’s buildings are captivating. His design is wonderful and creative; I guess I tend to appreciate the whimsical more than the practical.

FOOD: Salty or sweet? Do you know how to make your favorite dish?

It used to be sweet all the way, but I’ve come to appreciate salty. One of the most satisfying dished to me is roasted or sauteed kale, which I make frequently.

THOUGHT: Fiction or nonfiction? What form does the bulk of your own reading and/or writing take?

Nonfiction, to read and to write. Our world is so interesting and complex that I don’t feel the need to escape it.

FUN: Where in the world do you want to go or be stranded? What five things would be in your bag?

I’d like to be in Berlin, as I was there for a few days last summer and found it interesting and very walkable. I’d want Euros, sunscreen, a notebook, a map, and a bottle of water in my bag.
