{ Dd } Short Short List 11/2 – 11/8

In Archive, Columns, Short Short List

This week’s picks will take you to that liminal space between dance genres as classical dancers go contemporary in Texas and concert dance and cabaret are shaken and stirred in NYC…

1. Daniil Simkin’s INTENSIO at Jones Hall in Houston, TX

This ensemble of American Ballet Theater dancers uses their layoff time to experiment with their more contemporary side. Featuring new work by Alexander Ekman, Gregory Dolbashian, Jorma Elo and Annabelle Lopez Ochoa, these premieres will also explore the intersection of dance and technology, which seems only right given Simkin’s social media presence. Texans have a chance to catch this show before it makes its New York premiere.

2. The Y Cabaret at the 14th Street Y

Working outside the boundaries of traditional performance–neither standard cabaret nor straight concert dance performance–choreographers Adam Barruch, Lauren Cox, Omar Roman de Jesus, Ashley Menestrina, Jon Ole Olstad, Summation Dance, and Yin Yue will entertain you while you sip a drink. Y not?
