The Minneapolis Music Scene Rocks my Socks!

 In Archives, Uncategorized

Some of you may already know this, but for those of you who are still in the dark, the Minneapolis music scene is an outstanding schmorgeous-borge of musical bliss. From inde rock and folk inspired tunes to rap/r & b, the Twin Cities Metropolitan area boasts an impressive variety of talent. On any given day of the week, one can experience live music at venues all over Minneapolis and St. Paul. This is actually one of the things I miss the most about living there . . . I can assure  it is NOT the weather. I was a self-proclaimed ‘concert junkie,’ and would like to, now, pass on my love for Minneapolis singers, songwriters, and bands to the captive audience of Dd.

CLOUD CULT

(My promise; there is no one else out there quite like this Minneapolis band)

One of my fellow dancers at James Sewell Ballet introduced me to this band. I have been an avid fan ever since, and every new song I hear from them continues to blow me away. Craig Minowa is at the helm of the band’s creative pursuits. He began this journey in 1995 and the band has expanded gradually over the past 15 years. Each album differs incredibly from the previous one, yet each possesses the haunting quality that is uniquely Cloud Cult-esque. This band transforms what could be an ordinary concert into a true artistic experience. Every concert showcases two visual artists (Connie Minowa and Scott West) who begin with a blank canvas and, by the end of the show, have created stunning visual art.

Check out the song “Everyone Here is a Cloud” from their album Feel Good Ghosts; Tea-Partying Through Tornadoes

I am sitting here right now, staring at my iTunes store, with my finger hovering over the purchase button. They just came out with a new album Light Chasers. Hmm, what can I sacrifice financially this week in order to justify this purchase?
