Bringing Dance Back to Nature: Nashville Dance Companies Perform this Weekend in Shelby Park

 In Archives

One of the best benefits to living in the south is, undoubtedly, the weather. And any one in Nashville can take advantage of this Saturday, while getting their dance fill simultaneously. In honor of the centennial celebration of Nashville’s historic Shelby Park, Andrew Krichels brought together 5 different dance companies from around Nashville to meld with the natural scenery and further inspire the beauty of the park. Krichels, who is originally from the northeast and who had an extensive dance career dancing with many companies in New York City as well as teaching at Lincoln Center, is now a Nashville native who loves the greenways and wanted to bring dance back to nature using Shelby Park as a canvas.

Krichels says “Sometimes it feels as though people dress up and go to a concert hall to get their art like a flu shot. This is an attempt to truly involve people in a living, breathing way, exploring a beautiful path inhabited by talented dancers performing beautiful, accessible pieces.” Viewers can expect some fantastic surprises on their journey through Shelby Park; Nashville Ballet II will perform choreography by Banning Bouldin on an island, aerial dancers from FALL will soar in the trees, Chinese Arts Alliance of Nashville will line the path toward a cave, and Company Rose will flock on the shores of a lake, just to name a few. It is sure to be a wonderful day, full of fresh air and fantastic movement. If you will be in the Nashville area this Saturday, October 13 then head over to Shelby Park from 10:30-12 and reconnect with nature and fuel your dancing feet.
