{Dd} Short Short List for week of March 10th
Dd Short List for week of 3/10
1. “Thank You For Coming”
Bessie-award winning choreographer Faye Driscoll returns to ensemble work with “Thank You For Coming.” I loved her last show, “You’re Me,” which was an intimate duet between Driscoll and her longtime collaborator Jesse Zaritt; I even loved it when Zaritt was sidelined by an injury and temporarily replaced by Aaron Mattocks. Driscoll produces dances that are both accessible and moving, and I’m looking forward to seeing how she brings the growth from this last piece to a new group of mostly younger dancers. Driscoll has taken a new approach using social media to fund the project, including a Tumblr to document the entire process which can be found here: http://fayedriscoll.tumblr.com/
Danspace Project, March 6-14, Thursday-Friday at 8:00. $20 general, $15 members.

2. Ramp Residency Showing: Molly Lieber and Eleanor Smith
Lieber and Smith perform on March 15th as the culmination of a new two-week residency through PS 122. I first saw Lieber last year when she gave a phenomenal performance in Anna Sperber’s “The Superseded Third.” She was managed to be simultaneously daring and vulnerable, creating expectations and then upending them–and establishing herself as someone to watch. Smith has an equally impressive dance pedigree, and dances for Juliana May/MAYDANCE, Ivy Baldwin, and others. Their last collaboration, Tulip, was nominated for a Bessie for Outstanding Emerging Choreographer in 2013, and the New York Times called their previous work “the definition of a successful duet.” Even though this is only the showing of a short residency, they’re a duo worth seeing.
The Chain Theater, Long Island City, March 15, $10.
3. “Timelining”
Multi-disciplinary artistic duo Gerard & Kelly take on The Kitchen with a project that fits their wide-ranging interests, including sculptures, installations, and performance. Gerard is Brennan Gerard, a writer and performer with Simone Forti, and Kelly is Ryan Kelly, a former dancer at New York City Ballet who has since moved into the downtown dance world, most recently in Tere O’Connor’s Bleed. There are performances throughout the duration of the project in the space, but it premieres with two days of set performance and an additional temporary installation.
The Kitchen, March 14-April 19. Performances: March 14, 12-6, March 15, 11-6.
Gallery hours: Wednesday-Friday 12-6, Saturday 11-6. Free!
