1. luciana achugar

The title of Achugar’s new solo, OTRO TEATRO, means “other theater.” It is a search for just that–an exploration of what it might mean, and what it could be. She says the piece “takes place metaphorically in the ruins of a collapsed theater,” as she imagines rebuilding from nothing.

New York Live Arts, April 2-5, 7:30. Post-show talk on April 4th with Ralph Lemon. $30.

2. Conversations Without Walls

For all our choreographers out there: Danspace hosts a roundtable discussion on the role of sound in choreography, streamed live online! Titled “Prelude to an Image: Diagrams of the Sonic,” the talk covers music, silence, and all of the sound in between. Moderated by Jenn Joy with Miguel Gutierrez, Fionn Meade, and Mika Tajima.

Saturday April 5th at 3. In person at the Parish Hall in St. Mark’s Church, or online here.

3. Carolina Chocolate Drops and Twyla Tharp

It’s not until next week, but because it’s one night only, I’m posting it a week early so you can get your tickets now! The Grammy-award winning and generally awesome bluegrass group the Carolina Chocolate Drops performs at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, and while they’ve been on my radar for quite some time, what got my attention was the unlikely but potentially fantastic pairing with Twyla Tharp. In addition to performing music from their latest albums, the band will debut their collaboration with Twyla Tharp called “Cornbread Duet,” performed by NYCB dancers Tiler Peck and Robert Fairchild.

Brooklyn Academy of Music, Thursday, April 10th, 8 pm, $20.
