{Dd} Short Short List 10/6-10/12
1. “Moment Marigold”
Jodi Melnick takes on the Brooklyn Academy of Music, with live music from Steven Reker of People Get Ready. They collaborated before two years ago at New York Live Arts in a piece so good they reprised it twice, at Fall for Dance later that year and APAP in 2013. The New York Times has written not one but two preview notes about Melnick’s upcoming show, calling her “a supple surface that mysteriously suggests depths.” With Maggie Thom and EmmaGrace Skove-Epes.
Wednesday October 8-Saturday October 11, 7:30, Brooklyn Academy of Music, $20.
Bessie-award winning choreographer Yanira Castro’s company presents “Court/Garden,” inspired by the ballets of Louis XIV’s court. An ambitious work in 3 acts, the production lists not only the usual suspects–performers, costumers, dramaturg, etc–but also a “perfumer.” With live music by composer Stephan Moore.
Thursday October 9-Saturday October 11 at 8:00, Danspace Project, $20. There is no late seating because the audience will move, so make sure to arrive on time!
3. Conversations Without Walls
Danspace Project continues its program “Conversation Without Walls” with a truly interesting set of panelists, and a direct followup to the second show on this list! First up Yanira Castro talks with dance historian and professor Mark Franco, whose work inspired “Court/Garden,” about the “political unconscious” of dance. The rest of the afternoon will include discussions with Claudia LaRocco, who is curating the PLATFORM 2015 series, Will Rawls, former NYCB dancer Katilyn Gilliland, Jillian Peña, Suzanne Bocanegra, and a performance by Melissa Toogood choreographed by Pam Tanowitz.
Saturday October 11, 12-4:30, Danspace Project, $10 suggested donation.
