Lens on Screendance

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Choreographer/director Sarah Elgart creates original content for stage, screen, and site-specific venues. Her site-works have been performed at alternative venues including LAX, The Skirball Center, Van Nuys Flyaway, Jacob’s Pillow, The Bradbury Building, INSITU Site-Specific Festival NY, and Loft Seven, where she created a rooftop work lit entirely by a hovering helicopter and accompanied by Wilco’s Nels Cline. Elgart’s stage-works have been produced by venues such as The Music Center, MASS MoCA, Dance Place, Mark Taper Forum and more. Sarah has worked in film with directors such as JJ Abrams, David Lynch, Catherine Hardwicke, and Anton Corbijn, and her own films include award-winning music videos, dance shorts, and an Emmy nominated PSA. She has also worked extensively with dance and social justice with communities including maximum-security inmates, transitional homeless, at risk youth and others. She has received support and recognition from organizations including NEA, Rockefeller Foundation, LA Cultural Affairs, California Arts Council, Getty Arts, and Engelhard Hanovia Foundation. Sarah was twice selected for the Sundance Film Institute Dance Dance Film Lab, and also was a selected director for AFI Directing Women’s Workshop. In addition to being an educator in Dance and Screen Dance, Elgart is Founder Director of Dare to Dance in Public Film Festival that is committed to the accessibility of dance in the public realm and the intersections of dance and camera. Dare to Dance in Public Film Festival is currently accepting submissions for Round 4’s “PANDEMANIA!”
